The project aims at the creation of a new flagship city in Saudi Arabia in the vicinity of Riyadh. The land allocated for this new city covers an area in excess of 6,300 hectares. The master plan is expected to include a mixed-use of institutional, research facilities, commercial, recreational and housing activities, and infrastructure systems.
The Vision of the City is to make the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia among global leaders in the atomic and renewable energy value chain, a main source of related knowledge, and a pioneer in the propagation of sustainability principles and the adoption of an optimum energy mix throughout the Kingdom, in a commercially driven manner with quantifiable benefits for citizens’ welfare, businesses and resources.
Scope:
SETS was commissioned by the Project Authority to develop an integrated water strategy for K.A.CARE based on the principles of sustainability and innovation as well as integration with the City’s land-use and urban design. This included:
- Development of a sustainable water supply strategy by implementing water demand reduction techniques, water harvesting measures, recycling and reuse
- Identification of the water supply mix: connection to national grid, stormwater harvesting, groundwater, and Treated Sewage Effluent
- Estimation of the water demands and water balance for the city including potable, non-potable, irrigation, renewables cleaning, nuclear energy and cooling
- Preparation of concepts related to utilities network including relevant components (plants, storage tanks, pumps, etc…)
- Identification of water quality for the different demands (potable, non-potable, TSE, irrigation, renewables cleaning, nuclear energy and cooling)
