Services: Design of Pipeline and Associated Hydraulic Structures
Status: Completed - 2011
The project involved the detailed design of a 350km long conveyor pipeline to Al Oula treatment plant from eighteen wells, and then from the treatment plant to several villages in the region. In addition to the sizing of the pipeline, associated hydraulic structures were designed and sized. Simulations were conducted to assess the occurrence of adverse hydraulic conditions or unacceptable surge pressures and then to provide design solutions for these conditions.
Scope: - Hydraulic simulation to assess pressure distribution in the network
- Develop scenarios/alternatives for reducing the excessive pressure head in the network by:
Varying pipe diameter
Using pipes accessories and fixtures such as pressure reducing valves (PRV)
Introduction of energy dissipating structures
Design of the conveyor to incorporate the recommended solution and to include location of accessories such as (air release valves, washout valves, pressure reducing valves and other hydraulic control structures).
Validate design against pressure surges such as water hammer.
