The Kitchener Drain is one of the highest polluted drains in the Delta region, collecting domestic wastewater from numerous villages within three governorates, industrial wastewater and municipal solid waste disposed of along the banks of drains. SETS is to assist the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities to plan and manage the completion of Component 1 of the Kitchener Drain Project including:
• Construction of centralized wastewater collection systems (including wastewater networks) covering 69 unserved villages with a population of around 400,000 people
• Construction of 1 new WWTP and associated sewerage networks
• Expansion of 6 existing WWTPs
• Rehabilitation of 24 existing WWTPs
• Purchase of sewerage evacuation trucks to serve remote rural communities
• Prepare the ground for a successful transition into the operation phase, and
• Create capacities among their personnel for managing sanitation projects
